Recharge Conference
The theme for Afterschool Utah Association's Recharge 2012 is "Motivate and Create." AUA is hoping to help renew your passion and energy for afterschool through workshops including Love & Logic, Grant Writing, Prevent Child Abuse Utah, Behavior Management, Motivation and more. The Northern Recharge will be held January 21st at USU Brigham City Campus. The Southern Recharge will be held February 4th at Dixie State College in St. George. Afterschool Professional Credential
Would you like to receive $$$ for training?

Crime Prevention Conference
The Utah Council for Crime Prevention's Power of Prevention Conference will be held on January 23rd-28th at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. In the six day conference, participants, including youth, adults, and service providers, will have an opportunity to address issues such as drug abuse, gangs, cyber bullying, depression, and more. This conference is a great resource for afterschool programs who work to reduce crime each day by providing a safe place for youth! CHARACTER COUNTS! is both an educational framework for teaching universal values and a national coalition of organizations that support each other. The Hundred Dresses
In this Newbery Honor Book, a young girl comes to terms with the effect that the teasing of her friends has had on a shy classmate. Scholastic has created a coordinating lesson plan which explores character traits and decision making with regard to peer relationships. For the lesson plan details, Click Here.
Youth Development Institute
YDI Supervisor Guides are meeting plans that supervisors can use to enhance and advance the learning of their staff. The meeting plans take about 45-60 minutes but can also be adapted for any time frame to fit your professional development needs! Check out UAN's website to download the guide for addressing bullying.
Prevent Child Abuse Utah
Prevent Child Abuse Utah staff will visit local schools to educate administrators, educators, and students to work together to prevent bullying and harassment in their schools.

National Bullying Prevention Center
PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center unites, engages and educates communities nationwide to address bullying through creative, relevant and interactive resources. PACER’s bullying prevention resources are designed to benefit all students, including students with disabilities. PACER offers digital-based resources for parents, schools, teens and youth, including: educational toolkits, awareness toolkits and websites for both elementary and middle/high school students to find ways to address bullying, be heard, engage in activities, and be inspired to take action. What's New at UAN
Website Updates
If you aren't familiar with our updated website, check it out! One of the most recent additions is an Afterschool in the News page, which highlights local news stories about afterschool programs. The most recent post, an article from the Salt Lake Tribune, addresses the growth of afterschool programs in Utah as well as the need for additional programs to effectively serve Utah's youth during out-of-school time hours. If you come across news stories highlighting afterschool programs in your community, email them to info@utahafterschool.org. We would love to hear from you.
Web Calendar
Is your organization hosting a community event or training? You can get your event posted on UAN's web calendar. To submit an event, you must be a registered user on the website. Once registered, you simply log in and click on the calendar button at the top of the homepage. Click on the date you would like to add an event to, enter in the information, and click Save. An email will then be sent to UAN staff to approve the event. If the event is approved, it will be posted on the website within 2 days.
(Note that in order to complete registration on the website, you must confirm your email account by clicking on the link that is sent to you following registration.)

Utah Afterschool Network is now on both Facebook and Twitter! Program resources, professional development opportunities, contests, and potential funding opportunities are posted daily. Thanks for being patient as we discover how to best meet your needs through social networking avenues. Please let us know what kind of information you would like to see and we will do our best to accommodate!

UAN Quality Assessment and Improvement Tool Data Entry
For those programs receiving 21st Century funds, Safe Passages or Youth Connection grants from Department of Workforce Services, don't forget that all of your data for the Quality Tool needs to be entered online by January 20th. To enter your data you must first register on the UAN website. Once you have registered and signed in, you can enter data on the Quality page
of the website. Also included on the Quality page is an updated User Guide which can help inform the process. If you have any questions or concerns about completing the Quality Assessment or entering data online, call 801-359-8501 or email one of our Out-of School Time Specialists.

Share Your Success Stories
Afterschool Alliance is collecting “Success Stories” to strengthen support for investments in quality out-of-school time programs across the country. We know that you are doing great things for youth in Utah, so share your story! All you need to do is take a few minutes to complete a short survey to share successes earned by your afterschool program, or a program you know well. Please share examples of programs that boost student success in school (e.g., behavior, attendance, grades, academic skills) or provide engaging learning opportunities in areas such as STEM, digital learning, arts, health/nutrition, global learning and physical activity. When you complete the survey, you will be entered in a drawing to win a Kindle Fire or a $10 iTunes gift certificate. Hurry, you must send in your submission by January 18th
